To avoid problems with time sensitive components, the system clock on the server should be synchronised via the network time protocol (NTP).

Installing NTP

If you are installing on your own sever instead of using our image you will need to install the ntp daemon (or equivalent) if you don't already have it.

sudo yum install ntp ntpdate ntp-doc

Configuring NTP

Steps:

  • Stop the NTP daemon
  • Update the config file
  • Update the time (optional - it will update itself after a while)
  • Start the daemon again

Code

sudo service ntpd stop
sudo nano /etc/ntp.conf

Update the conf file so that it contains the following:

# ntpd.conf
tinker panic 0
restrict 127.0.0.1
restrict default kod nomodify notrap
server 0.pool.ntp.org
server 1.pool.ntp.org
server 2.pool.ntp.org
server 3.pool.ntp.org

Update the time (optional)

sudo ntpdate pool.ntp.org

Start the daemon back up

sudo service ntpd start
