There are two scenarios:

You are subscribing to something new

You will need to tell the service provider the following information:

  • Your entityID
  • Your scope
  • The federation you are a member of

It is also a good time to ask them which attributes they need, and what their WAYFless URL format is.

I would like to enable federated access to my subscription. I believe we are both members of the <federation>. My entityID and scope are:

  • EntityID: https://idp.mydomain.net/oala/metadata
  • Scope: mydomain.net

Please confirm the attributes that you need me to release, plus any others that may enhance the service. Please also confirm your WAYFless URL format including any target parameters for linking directly to articles.

You are changing your access method to OpenAthens LA from anything else

If you are changing over from another type of IdP software such as Shibboleth you will only need to tell service providers anything if your entityID or scope is changing too - if not, then they'll pick up the changes from the federation metadata after you update that with the federation.

If things are changing though...

I would like to update the remote access method for my subscription. I [remain in] / [have joined] the <federation> and my [new] entityID and scope are:

Please confirm the attributes that you need me to release, plus any others that may enhance the service. Please also confirm your WAYFless URL format including any target parameters for linking directly to articles.
