Path to function: Statistics > Auditing

For the date range you select you receive a summary of the events that have happened to your accounts such as the number of accounts created, deleted, moved or updated. As with all other date ranges in OpenAthens, they are inclusive.

To the right of this you also get this information broken down by individual accounts and you can filter this by username to see events for just one user if needed.

As with the search page, you can decide how many items that are visible on each page of results.

Clicking on a username will bring up that user's account details (unless that account has been moved from your administration area) and clicking on a summary item on the left will filter the view on the right to only show those items - to show all again, click the search button.

List of events that can appear in the summary
  • Successful authentication attempts
  • Failed authentication attempts
  • Changes of password
  • Automated expiry email being sent
  • Changes of Organisation
  • Changes of email address
  • Account deactivations
  • Account activations
  • Accounts expiring
  • Account deletions
  • Accounts suspended due to successive authentication failures (5 failures causes a 10 minute suspension)
  • Accounts disabled due to use across several countries on the same day (the suspension lasts until you reset the password or trigger an activation email for that user)

Actions not performed during the selected time will not have recorded events, so will not have summary items.

Additional information that can appear per user
  • Successful authentications to Service Providers
  • Dates and times of events
  • Where they have been moved to or from

A clearer view of authentications to service providers can be found through the statistics pages.

New events

As time goes on, more events and more granularity may start being audited and they would become visible on this page from then onwards.

Today's actions

The data for these events comes from several different sources and takes a few minutes to appear in the interface. Date ranges that include today's date as the endpoint will cover up to about 5 minutes before the results are generated.

Widget Connectorurl reporting concentrates on resource access, authentication and lifecycle stages, the audit function shows you what has been done to the accounts.

To see the main activities over all accounts

The audit page displays a combined stream of the main activities across all of your accounts actions - it includes things such as created, activated, and deleted but skips things such as email address or password changes. Clicking on a username will take you to that account's details page and a filter is available if you are interested in specific activities.

To look further back in time use the date range at the top or the see more option at the bottom.

To see detailed activity for a single account

In the account details, go to the activity tab where you will see details of the latest activity. The see more option bottom of the list will load up older activity and for larger hops back in time you can change the date. This view includes more activities than the organisation view - e.g. changes to the email address.

Anything to watch out for?

When an account leaves your control or is permanently deleted you will no longer be able to access its details or the detailed activity there.
